Summer School Fun 2012

Jolene Hott

June 29, 2012

What a great time children have had this summer at Panther Summer Horizons!  From draft horses, baby goats, turtles, and learning to say all 44 Presidents of the U.S. in order in under 10 seconds, the fun has been abundant!
Our first activity day was Panther Summer Olympics.  Although sprinkles invaded the first few minutes of our time, we trudged on to event after event.  Athletes competed in an obstacle course, threw the javelin, and did the hammer toss.  They aimed at targets to get points for their teams, had a tug of war, and even did a little fencing (with pool noodles).  All in all, the day was a huge success and culminated in eating ice cream bars at the end of the day.

All grade levels went to at least one of the Camden Point Mid-Continent Library's summer presentations.  They learned a few magic tricks and even how to recognize and avoid baby animals in the wild.  The children enjoyed the walk to the library and every presentation was outstanding this summer.
Our second activity day for the Kindergarten through grade 2 group was a Hawaiian Carnival.  A variety of booths were set up in the classrooms where children competed in many different types of games.  Some of the games they played were - the old-fashioned Pin the Tail on the Donkey, Duck Pond, Bean Bag Toss, Ping Pong Toss, Hula Hoops, Fishing, Balloon Bop, Musical Chairs, Freeze Dance, Cookie Walk, and face painting!  They had a BLAST!
The students in grades 3-8 held Games, Games, Games that were geared at the older level of student.  They had three rooms of fun.  One was board games, one was Wii games, and one was computer games.  Of course, this was a big hit with this age group!  Once again, in the afternoon they had ice cream bars.
Deanna Rose Farmstead was first on the field trip agenda.  Students were able to walk around the farm, see the baby animals, see the fishing hole, watch the ponies, and ate on the picnic grounds.  Then students went to see the new movie Madagascar 3.

As you can see, Panther Summer Horizons was full of fun and activity!
